United Way mini grants available

The United Way of Northeast Michigan is currently accepting applications for its bi-annual mini grants. Qualifying nonprofit organizations could receive up to $1,000. The intent of these mini grants is to fund programs that seek to meet high priority needs of the community.

Funds may be earmarked for 1) community needs or innovative programs and/or 2) new approaches to previously-identified needs; and/or 3) an agency or community emergency. Amounts requested can be up to $1,000. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, no exceptions. Funding will be provided for specific programs, not overall operations.

Free open skate on Saturdays

Free open skate is back at Northern Lights Arena, on Saturdays from 1 to 2:45 p.m. now through Dec. 21.

This program is sponsored by the Alpena County Youth and Recreation Millage. Skate rental is free for this program.

“Ice skating is an excellent way to keep active and fit during the winter months,” said Arena Manager Kelli Werda. “We are fortunate to be able to partner with the Alpena County Youth and Recreation Millage to offer this to the public.”

PI MARSP to meet Monday

The Presque Isle County Chapter of MARSP will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at The Three Cedars Restaurant in Millersburg. Ann Teesdale will speak about The Effects of Line 5 Under the Straits of Mackinac. The cost of the luncheon is $15.

PI Women’s Club to meet Tues.

The Presque Isle Women’s Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the PIHA Clubhouse.

The group will be having a salad luncheon, with tableware provided. Attendees should bring their favorite salad to share.

Drive a Corvette to lunch Wed.

The Sunrise Side Corvette Club will be having its September Drive Your Corvette to Lunch day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Thunder Bay River Restaurant. You do not have to be a member of the club to join in for this lunch.

ARMC retirees meet Thursday

The MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena (Alpena Regional Medical Center – ARMC) laboratory retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Thunder Bay River Restaurant in Alpena.
