Steak Fry Friday

A Sizzling Steak Fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at VFW Post 2496 in Alpena on Friday.

Pick a steak (you grill or they will), and there will be baked potatoes, salad and dessert.

The cost is $15 per person.

American Legion dinner Saturday

Alpena American Legion, 1316 M-32 West, will host a dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with coney dogs, slobby joe’s, salads, baked beans and strawberry shortcake, for $8 per person, or $4 for children 12 and younger.

Student writing awards Sunday

The North East Michigan Student Writing Award ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, presented by Brush Creek Writers, at Brush Creek Mill in Hillman. Brush Creek Mill is located at 121 South State St. Winning entries will be read aloud. Refreshments will be offered as well as time to speak to the young writers.

Bridge winners announced

Alpena Duplicate Bridge Club winners this week are Gordon Bennett and Connie Hawkins in first place, Audrey Stevens and Linda Clegg in second, and marcy Sherman and Beverley Rousseau in third. The group meets at 12:45 p.m. Mondays at First United Methodist Church in Alpena.
