Award-winning artist to teach drawing workshops at museum

The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan is offering a series of colored pencil drawing workshops with award-winning national artist, Erwin P. Lewandowski.

Introduction to Drawing will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday. This workshop is designed for beginners ages 12 and up who have an interest in learning some fundamentals of working with graphite pencils and colored pencils. The workshop is $50, and includes sketching exercises, introduction to basic drawing techniques, and simple strategies for using colored pencils. There will be a short introduction to developing and creating compositions.

An Intermediate Drawing Workshop will be at noon Saturday, for $50, designed for ages 12 and up who have achieved a basic understanding of drawing practices. Participants will be introduced to a wide range of drawing techniques through a series of planned exercises, learn some strategies for working with graphite and color, and develop a sense for creative compositions.

A second round of workshops will be offered in July. Introduction to Drawing will be from noon to 4 p.m. July 13. Intermediate Drawing will be at noon July 20.

Students will receive a $10 discount when they enroll and pay for any two workshops. Art students will need the following materials: set of 24 or more soft colored pencils, 2B and 6B graphite sketching pencil, one or more pigment ink liners (01, 03, or 05), eraser. Drawing paper will be provided.

Lewandowski plans to test new visual equipment in all of his workshops at the Besser Museum this summer. This added feature used during demonstration sessions will enhance the learning experience for students.

To register call the museum at 989-356-2202. Participants can also register the day of the workshop if space is available.
