Alpena Writers hosting contest
This Saturday, June 22, is the deadline for a fan-fiction writing contest being hosted by the Alpena Writers’ Group, open to anyone living in Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle, Montmorency, Oscoda, Iosco, and Ogemaw Counties.
Rules for The Untold Story: A Fan-Fiction Contest include the following:
∫ All entries must fall within the general category of fan-fiction and involve a character/characters based in a commonly known popular culture medium.
∫ All entries must be family-friendly. Any entries that do not fully fall in the G-Rated Family Friendly category will be immediately disqualified.
∫ All submissions need to be electronically submitted to the alpenawritersgroup@gmail.com.
∫ Format shall be a cover page that includes only the title of the work, author’s name, address, and contact phone number. The subsequent pages are to include the body of work and a heading on each page including only the name of the work and no author information, allowing anonymous judging of entries.
∫ All entries must be original fan-fictions. Any entries previously published in any format will be removed for consideration from the contest.
∫ Current or former members of the Alpena Writers’ Group are not allowed to enter the contest.
Entries will be judged in two categories:
∫ Children (ages 13 or younger): The word count for this category is up to 500 words.
∫ Adult (ages 14 and up): The word count for this category is up to 1,500 words.
First place in each category will win a $100 prize. Second place winners will receive $25.
