Hillman VFW discusses upcoming events

The Hillman VFW Post 2356 met on May 2, with eight members present.

Upcoming activities the post would like to inform the public about include the Blessing of the Bikes in downtown Hillman starting at noon on Saturday, and V-J Day on Aug. 10.

The group will be picking up trash along the highway this month.

At the meeting, the group thanked Auxiliary member Judy Brown and company for the used item auction she chaired, which brought in a little more than $5,000. That money has allowed the post to start some much-needed building improvements. The group also thanked other auction participants, customers, helpers and Patchwood Plaza.

The post sells polyester 3′ x 5′ American Flags for $25.

The post is always welcoming new members, as many clubs and VFW posts are having trouble getting members. Any qualified veterans looking for a home are welcome to contact the post.

Volunteers are still needed for Friday night fish fry events, held from 4 to 7 p.m. each Friday. The group has volunteers, but needs more people who can stand on their feet for three straight hours. You do not have to be a member to help with the fish fry.

Medical supplies are available for loan by calling Marv at 989-733-0838 or Wayne at 989-255-4412. Those with medical supplies they are no longer using can donate them as well. For post hall rentals, call Bob Hunt at 989-657-1162 or Mark at 989-742-4131.

The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 6.
