Sellke earns honors at Alma

First-year student Carmen Sellke of Onaway was one of 40 students recently awarded the Alma College President’s Cup for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Sellke is a graduate of Onaway High School.

Earning the award were 27 first-year students, 11 sophomores and two juniors. The students earned the honor by achieving the highest academic standing in their respective classes at Alma College.

The tradition of the award was started more than 50 years ago in 1968 by Alma’s ninth president, Robert D. Swanson. Students earning the honor receive a certificate acknowledging their achievement.

Chroninger LSSU honor usher

Taylor L. Chroninger was chosen to serve as an honor usher for the 2019 commencement exercises at Lake Superior State University on April 27.

Chroninger is a senior from Alpena, majoring in accounting.

LSSU honor ushers are selected solely on the basis of academic merit. They are juniors and seniors with minimum grade-point averages of 3.5 out of 4.0.

As an honor usher, Chroninger assisted with the graduation ceremony by acting as a greeter, usher, or guide to VIPs. She received special mention in the LSSU commencement program.

Schepke earns award at GVSU

Kristin Schepke of Alpena has been awarded the Grand Valley State University Excellence in a Discipline Award for Biology.

This award is presented to one undergraduate and one graduate student in each academic major. Faculty from each department select the award recipient for their academic major.

Schepke is a graduate of Alpena High School.
