APS Art Around Town to be on display at 50 area businesses
ALPENA — Alpena Public Schools is hosting its annual Art Around Town event throughout Alpena and Ossineke this month.
Around 1,000 art pieces completed by Alpena K-12 students will be on display at 50 businesses throughout Alpena and Ossineke from Wednesday through May 29. Each business will showcase about 10 to 15 pieces of art.
APS art teacher Bethany Cooke said the students have been working very hard to complete their artwork. She said both the businesses and students look forward to the event.
“It’s just a fun event for the kids,” Cooke said. “They’re really excited and they like to know where their art is.”
The event is exciting for everybody, because the businesses like showing the art and the school district likes being able to show off each student’s work, Cooke said.
Elementary school students completed 2D artwork while high school students completed 3D pieces for the event. There will be a mix of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics at the businesses, Cooke said.
“It means a lot to the kids to have their piece up and look professional in the businesses and it’s cool for them to see that,” she said.
Not just the students are excited for the event, parents are also excited, Cooke said. She said everybody looks forward to the event every year and parents especially like seeing their kids’ artwork.
Cooke and APS art teachers Melody Zelazny, Kyle Kieliszewski, and Sarah Bedford will spend a day before the event hanging up the artwork at the businesses.
“We work really hard to get them up so the kids can see their artwork,” Cooke said.
