Sponsored by Alpena County Library, Albom will speak about his newest publication, “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven” at the Fletcher Street Depot beginning at noon. Scheduled for release by Harper Collins on Oct. 9, “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven” is the long-awaited sequel to the mega bestselling “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”
According to Library Director Eric Magness-Eubank, “Mitch Albom is one of Michigan’s most popular and successful authors. We are pleased that he wanted to do a state-wide tour and come to Northern Michigan. People have asked for years whether we could bring him to Alpena, so we are thrilled this is finally happening.”
Fifteen years ago, in Albom’s beloved tale, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven,” the world fell in love with Eddie, a grizzled war veteran-turned-amusement park mechanic who died saving the life of a young girl named Annie. Eddie, who felt his life was meaningless, journeyed to heaven and encountered five people from his time on Earth who showed him every life matters, and that people touch each other in countless, unimaginable ways.
Now, in this sequel, Albom reveals what happened to Annie, the little girl, how her world changed after the accident, and what awaits her when she eventually makes her own journey to heaven and reunites with the man who saved her.
General admission tickets for the event are $25 and will include a hardcover copy of “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven.” Tickets will be available for sale at the library and through www.alpenalibrary.org.
