ACC Foundation’s Scramble for Scholarships nets $18,957

On Aug. 18 a total of 102 golfers teed off at River’s Edge Golf Club for the Robert M. Granum Memorial Scramble for Scholarships. The Alpena Community College Foundation hosted this annual event, which netted a total of $18,957 to be distributed in the form of scholarships for ACC’s students.

Besser Company once again served as the tournament’s corporate sponsor, and golfers enjoyed a lunch sponsored by Alpena Power Company and The Wartosky Group. Alpena Buick-GMC sponsored a hole-in-one competition which offered a 2018 Buick Encore. Alpena Agency Inc. sponsored a $10,000 cash hole-in-one prize.

Beverage sponsors included Alpena Beverage Company, Huron Distributors, Pepsi and Great Lakes Coca-Cola.

With a score of 55, the winning team was comprised of Phil Straley, Bill Peterson, Adam Peterson and Todd Skiba. Their prize was four 18-hole rounds of golf on The Jewel, including cart and horse-drawn carriage transportation between the Grand nine and Woods nine, donated by the Grand Hotel.

Second place honors went to the team of Jerry Skiba, Alex Tarkington, Tate Skiba and John Lappan, with a score of 58, earning them a golf package to Treetops Golf Resort in Gaylord.

Austin Gilmet, Scott Gilmet, Alex Karsten and Trevor Denstaedt received third place honors with a score of 59 and a golf package to one of seven Boyne courses.

Since its inception in 1996, the tournament has generated a total of $386,802 and provided hundreds of students with much-needed scholarship support.
