Dear Editor: Kudos to Mr. McClung on his letter Sept. 7. Who do these non-governmental organizations (NGOs) think they are, and what nerve and right do they have to circumvent the Congress, and the will of the people? Our great Alpena Plaza Pool is busy, valued

Since April 2022, a group of businesses, government entities, foundations, school district, and other invested members have held monthly meetings discussing the need for a new pool while seeking the best location, surveying the community, and discussing the organizational structure and fiduciary agent going forward. Alpena County commissioners do not want to put money into the 50-year-old pool to repair worn-out or irreplaceable parts. Questionable actions by Alpena County board

Dear editor, As a resident of Alpena County, I’m dismayed by the recent actions of the county Board of Commissioners. From the cryptic wording of the “Separate Tax Limitations” they proposed on the August 2024 ballot to their quid pro quo handling of the library board, the actions of the current commissioners are not moving Alpena County toward a more perfect local governance.
