Dr. Walchak receives ACC’s Endowed Teaching Chair Award
Dr. Karol Walchak, Alpena Community College speech instructor, was presented with the 2018-19 Russell H. and Fromilda Y. Wilson Endowed Teaching Chair Award at ACC’s annual staff recognition dinner held on May 11.
The late Lucas E. and Janet G. Pfeiffenberger established the Russell H. and Fromilda Y. Wilson Endowed Teaching Chair Fund in 2005 with the creation of an endowment fund with the ACC Foundation.
Their immense generosity provides a $5,000 annual award to a faculty member who has been selected by the Endowed Teaching Chair Selection Committee.
The Endowed Teaching Chair program recognizes and promotes academic excellence at ACC. The program honors noteworthy faculty members and provides resources for improving instruction, academic programs and professional development.
A 17-year member of ACC’s faculty, Walchak has taught a wide range of English classes including speech communication, public communication, basic writing, literature, freshman composition, British literature and American literature. In 2005, she began teaching in the language program by offering French one and two.
In addition, Walchak has an extensive background in languages, travel, culture, linguistics, communication and student activities. She will use the Russell H. and Fromilda Y. Wilson Endowed Teaching Chair Award to assist the Language Society students with funding for a trip to Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary in June 2019.
