Cellar reopens as summer gallery displaying ACC students’ artwork

The Cellar building, at the corner of Second Avenue and Carter Street, will be doubling as a gallery space this summer. The blank walls now are filled with student artwork on the ground level corridor as well as the lower level space. Students from the Alpena Community College Fine Art Department, specifically students from the painting, photography, and computer-generated imaging classes will be on display.

Dr. David Dargis offered the use of the Cellar building as gallery space to ACC Fine Art students as a way to give more exposure to their artwork. For many of the students this is their first time publicly exhibiting their work. The student show was juried and each medium was judged based on their technical merits and the pieces with the highest scores won. The winners were announced at the Cellar gallery’s opening reception on May 18. More than 20 artists are exhibiting over 70 individual pieces in this exhibition.

The Cellar gallery will be hosting the ACC Fine Art Department’s student work this summer. This exhibition is free and open to the public. The public is encouraged to stop in and view the student work during the summer Downtown Alpena Artwalks happening on the last Friday of May, June, July and August from 5-8pm. There will be complimentary food, beverages, and music at the Cellar Gallery for the Artwalk events.
