Man with Palestinian flag arrested for climbing London’s Big Ben

March 10, 2025

LONDON (AP) — A man was arrested early Sunday after he climbed the Big Ben tower at the Palace of Westminster in central London while barefoot and holding a Palestinian flag. The man, who appeared to be staging a protest on a ledge several meters yards up Elizabeth Tower, which houses Big Ben, stepped off the building after midnight and onto a cherry picker following a long conversation with negotiators. He got into a waiting ambulance. Traffic around the Palace of Westminster in London had come to a standstill for much of Saturday as emergency crews tried to reach the man. ...

Garrett becomes highest-paid non-QB in NFL history at $40 million per year

March 10, 2025

Myles Garrett is staying in Cleveland after the Browns gave him a record four-year contract extension that makes the four-time All-Pro edge rusher the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. A person with knowledge of the details told The Associated Press that Garrett’s deal includes $122.8 million guaranteed, an average annual salary of $40 million with a total value of $204.8 million. The person spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity because terms weren’t announced. Garrett, the 2023 AP Defensive Player of the Year, had asked for a trade last month but the Browns were ...

March 10, 2025

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Russell Henley faced one shot he hardly ever practices. On another shot, he figured he had little chance for the ball to stay on the green. Both turned out close to perfectly Sunday in the Arnold Palmer Invitational — one for birdie, the other for eagle — that were key moments in a charge that would have made Arnie proud. He shot 33 on the back nine — the best of anyone in contention for a 2-under 70 that gave him a one-shot win over Collin Morikawa. “It’s still surreal wearing this thing up here,” Henley said of the red cardigan that goes to the ...

Severe Texas storm flips RV, killing man and injuring family

March 10, 2025

ENNIS, Texas (AP) — One man died and three of his family members were injured when their RV flipped over several times at the Texas Motorplex during a strong thunderstorm that caused widespread damage in an area located about 25 minutes south of Dallas on Saturday. Strong winds of up to 90 mph ripped the roof off a Days Inn along Interstate 45, damaged homes throughout Ellis County and toppled at least seven semitractor-trailer trucks on Interstate 35. The strong storms also knocked out power to nearly 20,000 people, but didn’t generate any tornadoes. About 2,000 remained ...
