Huron Pines hosting snowshoe hike at Hubbard Lake Preserve

ALCONA COUNTY — Huron Pines is hosting a guided snowshoe hike Feb. 11 at its Hubbard Lake Preserve in Hubbard Lake.

The family-friendly event will begin with a brief welcome and introduction by Julia Butch, Land Protection Coordinator for Huron Pines. Participants will learn about the history, geology, ecology and management of the 80-acre preserve over the course of a one-hour hike.

“This will be a great learning opportunity for both new visitors and those who are familiar with the preserve,” Butch said. “We’ve had a lot of success in managing invasive species and are establishing a pollinator garden, and we’re looking forward to sharing those updates during the hike.”

The event runs from 10:30 am to noon. Please RSVP at huronpines.org/events.

Participants should bring their own snowshoes, water and snacks and be dressed for the weather. In the case of little or no snow, if snowshoes are not needed, sturdy boots are recommended. To reserve snowshoes, please email julia@huronpines.org.

In the event of dangerous driving conditions or extreme temperatures, the hike will be canceled.

Hubbard Lake Preserve is located at 720 Holiday Inn Rd. in the community of Hubbard Lake. This wooded property includes 1.5 miles of trails and hills on Hubbard Lake’s Churchill Point.
