A strong wind sheer Tuesday morning caused the collapse of the popular fish mural in Downtown Alpena.
The wind also caused damage to the brick wall of the building housing The Local Basket Case, which as of 11 a.m. was still a threat to completely collapse as high winds in the area continue.
Art in the Loft Executive Director Justin Christensen-Cooper, who spearheaded the project to have the mural created, said the collapse happened Tuesday morning. He said the popular attraction brought residents and visitors downtown to pose for photos and eat lunch at the park.
City of Alpena Department of Public Works employees barricaded the area and people are urged to stay away from the area.
