PREP ROUNDUP: JV Wildcats throw no-hitter vs. Saginaw Swan Valley

Alpena loses to Swan Valley

SAGINAW — A bases-loaded error proved to be the difference on Wednesday as the Wildcats lost 6-5 to Saginaw Swan Valley. The two teams played three innings of a second game and Swan Valley led 5-3 when play was stopped.

In the opener, Travis Weide pitched five innings for Alpena and Matt Thompson pitched the last two, while adding a double and a home run at the plate.

In the second game, Keegan Hahn and Noah Marquardt split time on the mound and Weide had a home run.

Alpena is scheduled to play at Sault Ste. Marie on Monday.

JV BASEBALL

Alpena no-hits Swan Valley

Marc Kirchner, Brady Pagels and Caleb McEwen combined to throw a no-hitter as the Wildcats defeated Saginaw Swan Valley 5-0 and 8-3 on Wednesday.

The trio threw the no-no in the opener and combined for seven strikeouts.

Kirchner had a home run among two hits and drove in two; Gabe Glawe scored twice and had two hits and Kaleb Donajkowski, Jon Rensberry and Glawe each had an RBI.

Alpena built a 8-0 lead in the nightcap before Swan Valley scored three runs in its final turn at the plate. Jake Zann went five innings for Alpena, allowing one hit, walking four and striking out three.

Landen Spomer had two hits and scored twice and Glawe scored twice. Brady Pagels, Zann, Kirchner, Spomer, Tucker Bright and Brady Niedzwiecki each had an RBI.
