PREP ROUNDUP: Posen boys win Little Dipper title

BOYS BASKETBALL

Ogemaw Heights 67, Alpena 49

WEST BRANCH — Cooper Bright had 20 points, but fourth quarter struggles cost the Wildcats on Tuesday. Alpena (3-10) trailed 44-39 after three quarters, but the Falcons took control in the final period, outscoring the Wildcats 23-10. Austin Prue added eight for Alpena.

Alpena is off until next week when it plays at Traverse City West in a district game Tuesday.

Alpena’s JV team lost 44-41 and was led by Colt Gray, who had 16 points. Alpena’s freshman team won 34-31 and was led by Caleb McEwen, who had 10 points.

Posen 81, Atlanta 40

ATLANTA — Lucas Stone scored 30 points as the Vikings (10-3, 9-1 NSL) wrapped up the Little Dipper division title with a win on Tuesday. Posen led 40-17 and ended a two-game losing streak with the win. AJ Brunet added 15 points for Posen and Chase Dubie had 12. Trace Juergens led Atlanta (3-9) with 20 points.

Posen won its first conference hardware since 2012 and will play at Rogers City on Friday.

Alcona 63, Gaylord St. Mary 58, OT

LINCOLN — DJ Howe scored 20 points, Zach Stephenson added 19 and the Tigers came winners in overtime during Senior Night on Tuesday. Alcona trailed after each of the first three quarters and surrendered an 11-point lead in the second half, but came out the victor after outscoring the Snowbirds 9-4 in the extra period. Howe scored four points in overtime, Stephenson had three and Nick Rasmussen had two. Rasmussen and Chris Barnes each had nine points in the win.

Hillman 41, Tawas 39

TAWAS — Trenton Taratuta had 20 points, Caleb Hiveley added 11 and the Tigers led from start to finish, edging the Braves on Tuesday in a gritty game. Hillman improves to 9-7 and will host Pellston on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Posen 47, Atlanta 21

ATLANTA — Makayla Kamyszek scored 14 points, Ella Szatkowski added 11 and the Vikings (12-1, 10-0 North Star League) won their second game in as many nights on Tuesday. After both teams played to a 10-10 tie after one quarter, Posen outscored the Huskies 12-2 in the second quarter and kept ahead from there. Tanaysja Tidwell led Atlanta (2-9) with eight points as the Huskies more than doubled their point total from their previous matchup with Posen.

Posen finishes a stretch of three games in three days with a contest at Rogers City on Thursday. Atlanta plays at Whittemore-Prescott on Friday.
