PREP ROUNDUP: Onaway gets past Forest Area

Onaway 66, Forest Area 58

FIFE LAKE–The Cardinals (9-3) got off to a commanding 27-8 start and overcame injuries down the stretch to win their fourth straight game. Onaway led 40-17 at halftime and 51-31 at halftime, before holding off a fourth-quarter rally attempt. Spencer Nash led Onaway with 21 points, Daniel Price had 20, Jager Mix had eight and Austin Veal had four.

Onaway hosts Pellston on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Alcona 53, Hillman 46

HILLMAN–Alcona (9-2) won a back-and-forth game on Wednesday and was led by Liz Henderson, who had 11 points. Lily Bilbey added 10 for Alcona and Kelsey Hansen had nine. Sage Flaugher scored 15 points for Hillman (8-4) and Julia Taratuta added 12 as Hillman had several late chances to get back into the game, but fell short.

Hillman hosts Atlanta on Friday and Alcona hosts Whittemore-Prescott on Saturday.

Oscoda 67, Rogers City 28

OSCODA–Bolstered by 11 three-pointers in the first half and 15 on the night, Oscoda (12-1) cruised to its third straight Big Dipper division title on Tuesday. Macy Kellstrom led the Owls with 18 points, Olivia Toppi had 11 and Izzy Hulverson had 10.

WRESTLING

Alpena goes 1-1 at tri meet

OSCODA–The Alpena wrestling team competed in a triple dual meet with Oscoda and Alcona on Tuesday. Alpena beat Alcona 48-6 and lost to Oscoda 48-21.

Jeremiah Bullis (140), Declan Genova (145/152), Mason Bray (160), and Cameron Kubbe (285) went undefeated with two wins against Oscoda and Alcona. This included a big victory at 152 pounds by Genova over Oscoda’s Anthony Ward by a score of 3-2, avenging his only previous defeat on the season.

Additionally, John Eaton (103), Caleb Bullis (135), Noah Lytle (145), and Jayden Spencer (215) went 1-1 for the night. Gunner Spencer also won an exhibition map against Oscoda’s Jacob Wright at 285.
