PREP ROUNDUP: Wildcats blanked by Gaylord; Posen hoops teams beat Au Gres

HOCKEY

Gaylord 5, Alpena 0

Not much went right for the Wildcats in a Wednesday loss. Alpena (0-3-1) trailed 2-0 after two periods and had some chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Alpena will host Traverse City Central on Friday and will play a pair of homes games on Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Posen 65, Au Gres 18

Ella Szatkowski had 26 points, Makayla Kamyszek had 13 and Lizzy Romel added nine for the Vikings (2-1, 2-0 North Star League), who got out to a 42-12 halftime lead and had every player score and get some playing time in the win. Posen plays at Fairview on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Oscoda 81, Rogers City 49

Drew Hess scored 24 points and Owen Franklin had 22 for the Owls (5-0, 3-0 NSL). Oscoda led 30-24 at halftime, but ran by Rogers City in the second half after a 31-point third quarter. Michael Gepfrey added 12 points for Oscoda and Brennon Mills had nine. Nick Freel paced Rogers City with 17 points.

Posen 70, Au Gres 24

An aggressive defensive start powered the Vikings (2-1, 2-0 NSL) to another league win. AJ Brunet led Posen with 26 points, Lucas Stone had 17, Lucas Mercier had nine and Chase Dubie had eight. The Vikings led 51-8 at halftime. Posen hosts Fairview on Friday.

Hillman 72, Cedarville 35

Everything went right for the Tigers (3-1), who won their second game in two days. Trenton Taratuta had 22 points for Hillman and Caleb Hiveley had 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Hillman hit nine three-pointers in the win, had 16 steals on defense and had just six turnovers. Hillman plays at Atlanta on Friday.
