ACC finishes regular season
The Alpena Community College cross country team finished its regular season at the Jayhawk Invitational on Saturday held in Muskegon.
The Lumberjacks had four runners who ran career bests and one season best for the meet.
“We used this meet as our tune-up meet for regionals which will be held in two weeks” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “Half the teams here were four-year schools, so the competition was tough, but we again ran well and hit our goals for the day.”
John Siegert (Ludington) continued his outstanding season, leading the Lumberjacks with a season best time of 28:35. Nate Robey (Big Rapids) ran a career best time of 30:37. Following Robey was Teddy Peters (Onaway) with a time of 30:54. Alpena’s next three runners also hit career bests, they were; Connor Bagnell (Memphis) 31:17, Duncan Ross (Rogers City) 32:37 and Runi Demirkol (Istanbul, Turkey) 33:03. Yuki Nishibashi (Otsu, Japan) finished with a time of 35:26.
“The weather today was awful, which plays in our favor this time of the year. The majority of teams we compete against run afternoon practices when the weather warms up. We practice at 5:30 AM and lately the weather in Alpena hasn’t been the greatest at that time, so we are used to it and used it to our advantage,” Jacobs said.
