PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena XC runners bring home hardware in 2020 opener

The Alpena High cross country team got the season off to a solid start on Thursday at the Rau Invitational at Ogemaw Heights. Alpena’s boys team won its division and was led by Hayden Allen, who finished second overall in 18:33. Brendan Stepaniak won the JV race with a time of 19:57. In all, Alpena’s boys team came home with a trophy and 10 medals. Alpena’s girls team brought home a trophy and three medals and was led by Madi Szymanski, who won the girls race in 21:19.

Huskies fall to Boyne Falls

BOYNE FALLS–The Atlanta High School volleyball team played hard on Wednesday, but came up short, losing to Boyne Falls in three sets.

Atlanta lost 9-25, 16-25 and 18-25.

Tanaysja Tidwell had three aces, three kills and three digs for the Huskies and Andrea Jadrych had four kills. Chloe Koronka had six aces and ShaeLynne Lance had two aces, a kill and six digs.

The Huskies host Wolverine on Tuesday.
