In their only home meet of the season, several members of the Alpena wrestling team had a strong showing on Wednesday in a quad with Pellston, Rogers City and Oscoda.

Aiden Chism (189 pounds) and Wyatt Romero (215) each had a pinfall win and Gunnar Spencer (heavyweight), Caleb Bullis (130) and Romero both had a pair of wins for the Wildcats, who lost to Rogers City 39-24, but defeated Pellston 42-30.

Chism pinned Pellston’s Ashton Vanhaysen in his second match of the night. Chism led 5-4 after one period, but got a quick escape and a takedown to increase his lead and finally pinned Vanhaysen in 5:47.

Romero followed up with a strong performance against Pellston’s Aiden Klungle. Romero got a takedown and a near fall within the first minute of the match, but finally pinned Klungle with 22 seconds left in the opening period.

In the only other head-to-head matchup in the dual, Alpena’s Alex Gies (135) was pinned by Xavier Schansema in 54 seconds.

Alpena wrestled hard against the Hurons, but the Hurons scored three pins in four of the head-to-head matchups that took place.

Austin Bielas outlasted Bray for a 6-4 win; Anthony Paull pinned Barrett in 2:53; Jacob Pomranke pinned Porter in 2:43 and Clayton Henry pinned Chism in 36 seconds.

Porter fought his way out of a near fall in the first period, but Pomranke eventually earned the pin.

Romero and Gies both won by void as did Spencer and Bullis.

Alpena’s Matt Barrett, left, locks up with Rogers City’s Anthony Paull in a 160-pound match.

Isaac Hein (145), Hayden Hentkowski (103) and Caden Fenstermaker (119) all won by void for the Hurons.

Rogers City battled in its second dual of the night, but lost to Oscoda 40-34. The Hurons got out to a 30-0 lead in the dual thanks to wins from Hein (145), Pomranke (160), Paull (171), Bielas (152) and Henry, who earned a pin. Hentkowski also had a win.

Voids in the upper weight classes and some of the lighter weights allowed Oscoda to get on the board and the Owls made it 36-34 when Zach Ouilette (130) won by void.

A double void at 135 gave way to a win by void for Anthony Ward (140) to give Oscoda the win.

Alpena is scheduled to wrestled in Rogers City on Saturday at the Bill Barrett Memorial Tournament.
