PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena grapplers compete in TC

TRAVERSE CITY–The Alpena High wrestling team competed last Saturday in the Traverse City West Holiday Wrestling Invitational.

Cameron Kubbe (285) placed fifth after pinning two of his opponents and falling by technical fall 15-3 in another match to the No. 2 seed.

Wyatt Romero broke even, winning two of his matches–one by pin and the other by the score of 15-8.

Mason Bray had a tough day; with his bracket being so large he had to wrestle off two matches before getting into the main bracket then drawing the top seed. He finished the day with three wins and two loses.

Christopher Mathia had one win and two losses

Caleb Bullis lost his first match and won his second match with his opponent being disqualified.

In varsity group B, Gunner Spencer (heavyweight) placed first, winning 4 of his 5 matches by pin and losing only one match to Traverse City West 8-7

The other place finisher was Alex Gies (130), who placed fourth.

GIRLS BOWLING

Alcona wins 2 in

season opener

WEST BRANCH–The Alcona girls bowling team traveled to Ogemaw Lanes for its season opener on Dec. 21. Attending were teams from Oscoda, Tawas, Ogemaw, Whittemore Prescott, Charleston Heston, Bay City All Saints, Houghton Lake and Alcona.

In its first match against Tawas, the Tigers split the baker games but came out on top 281 to 208. Alcona stayed strong to take both team games with a total of 1,273 to Tawas’ 985. Alcona won Alcona 24-6 in final scoring.

High game for Alcona went to Brielle Keyser with a 173.

In the second match, Alcona faced Houghton Lake. The Tigers swept both bakers games 284 to 174. For the team event, the Tigers came out on top again, bowling a 1,397 to Houghton Lake’s 1,159. Alcona won 27-3 in the final scoring.

High game for Alcona was Isabella Bates bowling a 222.

Alcona’s next game is Saturday at HI-Skore Lanes in West Branch.
