Lumberjacks come up short at Oakland Community College

SOUTHFIELD–Second half struggles doomed the Alpena Community College girls basketball team on Wednesday as the Lumberjacks fell to Oakland 74-46.

Alpena (2-8) got off to a slow start, but led by five at halftime. From there, the game belonged to the Raiders, who outscored Alpena 25-2 in the third quarter and cruised from there.

Dakota Prevo led ACC with 10 points and six rebounds and Brooke Nguyen added eight points.

“We tried hard, but we need to continue to get better and practice and push one another to get better.”

The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team came up short on Wednesday, losing to Oakland by a final score of 94-76.

“We played good basketball for 30 out of 40 minutes,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “We had spurts where we turned the ball over repeatedly and they took advantage of our mistakes.”

The Lumberjacks were without starting guard Garrett Miller and Alpena missed his outside presence.

“We did have some guys who stepped it up tonight when called upon,” Jacobs said.

Steeve Nicolas and Chris DeRocher each recorded a double-double. Nicolas led ACC with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while DeRocher finished with 14 points and 10 rebound.

Logan Guenther added 15 points and Isaac Hogsett chipped in with 14 points in the losing effort.

The ACC men will return to the court on Saturday when they host Bay Community College at 7:30 p.m.
