MOUNT PLEASANT–The Alpena Community College basketball teams both opened the 2019-20 season with a loss, losing on the road to Mid Michigan College.

ACC’s women’s team lost 74-46. The Lumberjacks kept things close early, but fell behind in the second quarter and trailed 37-16 at halftime.

Brooke Nguyen and Dakota Prevo each led ACC with 10 points each and Brooke Jones added eight points.

The ACC men’s team lost 86-64. The Lumberjacks trailed 45-25 at halftime and were forced to play catch-up the rest of the way.

Three Alpena players finished in double figures, led by Garett Miller’s 16. Chris DeRocher added 14 points and Logan Guenther had 10. Isaac Hogsett added nine points.

Both Alpena teams are back in action this weekend. The men will play at Kalamazoo Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. and both teams will play Lake Michigan College at Kalamazoo Valley on Saturday.

Game times for Saturday are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
