Hillman softball team sweeps Rudyard at home

HILLMAN–The Hillman softball team rebounded from a tough loss on Thursday with a sweep of Rudyard on Friday at home.

Hillman won the opener 3-0 and triumphed in the nightcap 9-2.

McKenna Hiveley earned the win for Hillman (9-4-1) in the opener, allowing four hits, five walks and striking out two.

At the plate, Bailey Schook, Brooke Jones (double) and Joslyn Brown each went 2-for-3.

Schook earned the win for the Tigers in the nightcap, allowing four hits, walking four and striking out 11.

At the plate, Schook and Alison Samp both had doubles and runs scored. Jones was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles; Brown was 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Makenna Grulke was 3-for-3; Kylee Green was 2-for-3 and Mackenzie VanPamel had a hit.

“The girls have played some good ball the past few days,” Hillman coach Ken Rundell said. “(I was) excited to see the key hits come our way and contributions from all.”

Hillman plays in Birch Run on Saturday.

BASEBALL

Rudyard takes 2 from Hillman

HILLMAN–The Hillman baseball team had a rough day on Friday, dropping a non-conference doubleheader at home against Rudyard.

Hillman lost the opener 10-3 and dropped the nightcap 8-0.

Nic Taratuta took the loss for Hillman in the opener, allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

At the plate, Fisher Linseman and Isaac Morrison both singled for Hillman.

In the nightcap, Aden Sobeck took the loss for Hillman, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts in four innings.

Kory Henigan had a single for Hillman.
