Hurons compete in New Lothrup tournament
NEW LOTHRUP–The Rogers City volleyball team advanced to the gold bracket on Wednesday during a tournament in New Lothrup before losing its bracket play opener.
Seeded fifth in bracket play, the Hurons lost to Birch Run 19-25 and 14-25.
In pool play, the Hurons defeated Durand (25-23, 25-17) and Bendle (25-15, 25-14) and split with New Lothrup (20-25, 25-18).
“We had a pretty good day and played pretty well in pool play,” Rogers City coach Jackie Quaine said. “But I think we just sat for two long and came out a little flat.”
Kyrsten Altman had nine aces, eight aces and 27 digs for the Hurons; Catheryn Hart had eight kills and five blocks; Shawna McDonald had seven kills as did Makenna Fessler; Christina Andrzejewski had four blocks and 12 assists; Kristin Brege had 23 assists and 15 digs; Maddie Hincka had 22 digs and Sarah Brege had 20 digs.
Rogers City is 4-3-2 on the season and will compete in a tri-match in Alpena on Thursday.
