Onaway splits tri in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE–The Onaway volleyball team split a tri on Monday, losing to Sault Ste. Marie and beating Cheboygan.

Onaway lost to Sault 21-25, 20-25 and defeated Cheboygan 30-28, 25-22.

Maddie McLean had 17 kills and 16 digs for the Cardinals and Jaclyn Nash had three kills, 31 assists, two aces, 14 digs and two blocks; Kennedy Crawford had seven kills, 13 digs and two blocks and Calley Selke had seven kills and 14 digs; Malaurie McLean had three kills and nine digs and KayAnna Dean had two aces and 11 digs. Jordan Larson added seven digs.

“We played the first match like we spent two hours on a bus ride,” Onaway coach Steve Watson said. “Tonight was three teams that were very similar in ability, so it could have gone either way.”

Onaway will play Rogers City and Posen in the Presque Isle Championships in Posen on Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m.
