Local players earn all-state softball honors

After a season which included a North Star League title, district and regional titles and a quarterfinal appearance, the Rogers City softball team had several players chosen for all-state honors by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.

Pitcher Jayna Hance, shortstop Kayla Rabeau, third baseman Hannah Fleming, outfielder Taylor Fleming and designated player Saige Wagner all earned Division 4 all-state honors after the Hurons went 34-6, won a league title, their sixth straight district title and their fourth regional in five years.

The Hurons’ lost to eventual Division 4 champion Indian River Inland Lakes in the quarterfinals.

Bulldogs pitcher Chloe Mallory and catcher Pamela Braund earned all-state honors and two other players, third baseman Madison Milner and outfield Sydney DePauw, earned honorable mentions.

Onaway pitcher Calley Selke earned all-state honors and Posen catcher Brooke Ciarkowski earned an honorable mention.

Two Alpena players, outfielder Liz Kendziorski and utility player Jade Schultz earned all-state honors in Division 1 and first baseman Jessica Marwede earned an honorable mention.

The Wildcats finished 32-7 and won the Big North Conference for the seventh year in a row.
