Alpena tops Traverse City West in home dual

The Alpena High track teams overcame windy, chilly conditions on Wednesday to top Traverse City West in a Big North Conference dual meet at Alpena High School.

Alpena’s boys team defeated West 93-67 and Alpena’s girls team defeated the Titans 85 1/2 to 73 1/2.

Josh Smith and Trevor Roznowski were double winners for the Wildcats. Roznowski won the shot put (46-1) and discus (139-2) and Smith won the 800 run (2:05.08) and 1,600 run (4:36.65). Smith was also a winner in the 3,200 relay along with Aidan Day, Mitchell Day and Aden Smith (8:58.12).

Alec LeTourneau won the pole vault (13-6), Hayden Goebel won the 300 hurdles (44.54) and Mitchell Day won the 3,200 run (10:17.10) rounding out Alpena’s first place finishes.

Wade Roznowski helped the Wildcats with a pair of third place finishes in the 100 dash (11.46) and 200 dash (23.82). Jadon Duncan also had a pair of top five finishes, taking second in the long jump (18-9 1/2) and third in the 400 dash (55.48).

Alpena’s three other relay team all took second place. The 400 relay team of LeTourneau, Wade Roznowski, Alex Arch and Levi Goebel finished in 45.34 seconds; the 800 relay team of Arch, Wade Roznowski, Levi Goebel and Hunter Kline-Tolsdorph finished in 1:36.55 and the 1,600 relay team of Duncan, Kline-Tolsdorph, Levi Goebel and Hayden Goebel finished in 3:42.64.

Emma Jore led Alpena’s girls team with wins in the 100 dash (13.61) and 200 dash (28.11).

Alpena’s other wins included: Maddy Boyd in the 1,600 run (5:31.85), Molly Dickenson in the 3,200 run (12:37); Savannah Thomson in the 300 hurdles (51.58); Karli Myers in the pole vault (7-0); Faith Weide in the shot put (36-5) and Dakota Prevo in the discus (118-5) and the 1,600 relay team of Boyd, Thomson, Jore and Katie Mack (4:27.73).

Taylor Foster had a pair of second place finishes in the 100 hurdles (17.31) and 300 hurdles (51.80). Mack finished second in the 400 dash (1:08.08) and third in the high jump (4-8).

Alpena’s other three relay teams all finished in second place. Alpena’s 400 relay team of Jore, Myers, Foster and Maddie Voltz finished in 1:03.40; Alpena’s 800 relay team of Foster, Jore, Mack and Voltz finished in 2:01.63 and Alpena’s 3,200 relay team of Boyd, Dickenson, Kaylee Rondeau and Malley McGuire finished in 11:09.57.
