Solid first half helps Alpena beat Gaylord

GAYLORD–Chris DeRocher scored 28 points, Cam DeCaire added 18 and the Alpena boys basketball team topped Gaylord 61-50 on Monday.

Alpena (6-7) led 30-20 at halftime and was helped out by a good start as the Wildcats only outscored Gaylord 31-30 in the second half.

Logan Guthrie also reached double figures for Alpena with 10 points.

“We played a real solid game really all night. We did a lot of good things as a team, especially defensively,” Alpena coach John Pintar said. “It was a good team effort on both ends of the floor.”

Alpena’s JV team topped Gaylord 66-52. Kayden Wisniewski led Alpena with 22 points and Colin Donajkowski added 10.

Gaylord’s freshman team defeated Alpena 52-30. Kelly Stark led Alpena with 18 points and Jaydan Duncan added six.

BASKETBALL

Rogers City 49,

Au Gres 31

ROGERS CITY–Taylor Fleming and Brooke Daniels each recorded a double-double and the Rogers City girls basketball team topped Au Gres at home on Monday 49-31.

Fleming had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Hurons (10-3, 8-1 North Star League) and Daniels had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Hannah Fleming added 12 steals.

Oscoda 71, Atlanta 12

ATLANTA–Katelyn Etherton scored 21 points and the Oscoda girls basketball dominated Atlanta on Monday en route to a 71-12 win.

Brianna Gross led Atlanta with four points.
