ACC women win third straight game

FLINT–The Alpena Community College women’s basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, defeating Mott 74-63.

The Lumberjacks (3-7, 3-3 MCCAA Eastern) have now won three games since starting the season 0-7.

“We played a good second half and we played well as a team and moved the ball well,” Alpena coach Bobby Allen said. “A couple girls stepped up big time.

Alpena trailed 40-36 at halftime, but was able to pull away from the Bears down the stretch. Kendra Cole led ACC with 25 points and Brooke Ellis and Anne Archambeau each added 12.

ACC’s men’s team fell to Mott 85-52 after a slow start. Trenton LaVergne led ACC with 15 points and Jameson Pierrelus added 14.

ACC is now 0-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Both ACC teams will host Schoolcraft on Wednesday. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
