Local teams honored with NSL selections

After a run to the Division 4 quarterfinals, the Rogers City softball team led local teams in North Star League all-conference selections for the 2016 seasons.

Catcher Sarah Meredith and infielders Hannah Fleming and Kayla Rabeau earned first team all-conference selections and pitcher Jayna Hance and outfielder Taylor Fleming earned second team nods. Outfielder Megan Brege was an honorable mention.

Hillman, Posen and Mio each had two first team selections. Vanessa Schook and Kalen Tchorzynski earned honors for Hillman, Jenna Hincka and Kayla Lenard represented Posen and Cassidy DeFlorio and Whitney Kann earned the nods for Mio.

Oscoda’s Kaitlyn Cox and Alcona’s Alissa Terpstra were the other first team selections.

Hillman’s Morgan Armon and Morgan Dove earned second team honors and Whittemore-Prescott had a pair of second team selections in Hailey Hostetle and Kaylie Bronson.

The rest of the second team is Oscoda’s Briannah Conley, Au Gres’ Hailey Davidson and Mio’s Taylor Whitman.

Local honorable mentions include: Alcona’s Madison Lane, Hillman’s Jozie Appelgren, Mio’s Emily Mangutz, Oscoda’s Mariah Eberhardt and Posen’s Brooke Ciarkowski.

After advancing to the regional final for the second straight year, the Hillman baseball team had just one first team all-conference selection in Dylan Steinke. The Tigers also had a pair of second team honorees in Jared Juergens and Kyler Moir. Bubba Banks also earned an honorable mention.

Alcona had three first team selections in Brock Franklin, Coda Gallagher and Nate Swinson and Rogers City had a pair of first team selections in Quintin Kelly and Casey Szatkowski.

The rest of the first team is Posen’s Travis Sharpe, Oscoda’s Kage Williams, Fairview’s Joss Esch and Whittemore’s Blake Liddell and Alex Yorton.

Whittemore and Rogers City each had two second team selections with Brendan Koss and Justin Saile representing the Hurons and Kyle Colton and Shawn Edmonds representing the Cardinals.

The rest of the second team is Hale’s Tanner Klein, Posen’s Nathan Mulka, Oscoda’s Jacob Malak and Alcona’s Erik Davey.

Local honorable mentions include: Alcona’s Alex Stephenson, Oscoda’s Travis Lamrock, Posen’s Avery Werth and Rogers City’s Christopher Tulgetska.
