Travel Soccer

The Alpena U-14 Travel Soccer team split a pair of games over the weekend. Alpena defeated Petoskey in game one, winning by a final score of 4-1.

Alpena opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game when Anna Young scored on a corner kick from Macy Dickinson. Petoskey quickly responded, netting a goal of their own to tie the game up at one goal apiece.

Alpena’s Kennedy Kaiser scored on an assist from Elly Clarke 10 minutes later to put Alpena back out in front for good.

In the second half, Anna Young scored the team third goal of the game after receiving a pass from Lauren Gapske. Kaiser finished out the scoring with a penalty kick that found the back of the net.

Dickinson and Bella Brown combined to get the win in net for Alpena.

Game two was a different story as Alpena lost a tight game by a score of 2-1.

Kinglsey came out and dominated early in the game and took a two goal lead. Alpena out chanced Kingsley the rest of the game, putting together several good scoring opportunities. Young scored Alpena’s lone goal on a corner kick from Dickinson 10 minutes before half time, but that was the only goal Alpena could get past Kingsley’s goalkeeper.

Clarke and Emma Shea started in net for Alpena and played solid, but Alpena fell just short in game two to split the weekend games.

Travel Soccer

The Alpena U14 girls travel soccer team played two home games on Saturday and earned a pair of wins.

Game 1 was against Cheboygan. Alpena scored 10 minutes into the 1st half when Elly Clarke bodied in a perfect corner kick by Macy Dickinson. Alpena dominated play but Cheboygan scored on its first good opportunity to tie the score. Alpena went ahead again when Macy Dickinson got the rebound off her corner kick to Elly Clarke for goal No. 2. Nicole Johnson played a great game, but even so in the second half Cheboygan tied the score on a penalty kick.

With five minutes left Anna Young scored the game winner assisted by Sarah Campbell to give Alpena a 3-2 win.

Keepers Emma Shea and Macy Dickinson combined for the win in net.

Game two was against Traverse City North Stars. Alpena had the wind during the first half and took advantage with two corner kick goals both were Macy Dickinson to Anna Young. Bella Brown played some excellent defense, but could not prevent the North Stars from scoring when they had the wind.

There were scary moments in the last 10 minutes but Alpena held on to win 2 -1 with Bella Brown, Marli Wils, and Elly Clarke sharing keeper duties.
