Dordt’s Lewis earns All-America honors
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.-For the third straight season, Kelsey Lewis is an All-American.
The Dordt College junior middle distance runner and Alpena alum earned All-America honors in two events last week during the NAIA National Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.
On Friday, Lewis won All-America honors in the 3,200 relay for the third straight season. The team of Lewis, Kayla Byl, Nicole Slater and Justine Van Zee finished fourth with a time of 9:16.09.
Last year the team of Lewis, Byl, Van Zee and Lillie Koerner finished third and as a freshman, Lewis was part of the 3,200 relay team that finished second.
On Saturday, Lewis competed in the 800 run and finished eighth to pick up her second All-America honor at the event. She had previously run a 2:17.90 in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals.
The eighth place finish was a bit of redemption for Lewis. As a sophomore she competed in the 800 and ran a 2:16.54 in prelims, less than two seconds shy of the time needed to qualify for the finals.
