Hillman girls mount epic comeback to stun Cardinals

HILLMAN — Trailing by 18 at halftime and 15 entering the fourth quarter, the Hillman Varsity girl’s basketball team pulled off a stunning 49-46 comeback victory over the Whittemore-Prescott Cardinals.

After a cold start left them trailing 30-12 at the half, the Tigers ignited its offense in the final frame.

Hillman unleashed a relentless defensive press, which led to easy baskets and outscored the Cardinals 23-5 in the fourth quarter to snatch the win.

The Tigers were led by Maci Klein with 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals; Madelyn Oswald with 13 points, five rebounds, seven steals, three assists, and a pair of blocks. Abigail Oswald had 10 points, nine rebounds, nine steals, and two assists.

The Oswald sisters combined for a staggering 16 steals, fueling the high-pressure transition game that ultimately sparked the Tigers’ comeback.

It was a gritty, hard-fought performance that proved the Tigers are never truly out of a game.

The Tigers are travelling to Alba, to play Alba, for the first round of Districts on Monday at 7 p.m.

The Hillman junior varsity Tigers girl’s team closed out its basketball season with a commanding 39-23 victory over the Cheboygan Chief. The team finished the season with an impressive 14-3 record.

The Tigers’ defense proved to be the difference-maker, led by a standout performance from Torri Brown, who racked up 15 points and seven steals.

Riley Cook was equally disruptive on the perimeter, contributing eight points and six steals.

The Tigers were also led by Ally Klein with seven points and three rebounds and Madelyn Tucker with five points and four rebounds.
