North Star League announces first and second team honors

ALPENA – The North Star League has announced its all-conference winners and there are many familiar faces who earned the honor this year. The league, which consists of two conferences, the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper, issued the honors for varsity volleyball and varsity football.
GIRLS VOLLETBALL
BIG DIPPER CONFERENCE
Alcona has two of the even first-team players who earned their all-conference spot. Addi Beatty and Everly Gordy were announced as top finishers because of their outstanding performances this past season.
Locally, there were two girls who made second year honors in the Big Dipper, Elliyana Grimshaw, from Alcona, and Charleigh Comerford from Rogers City.
LITTLE DIPPER CONFERENCE
Northeast Michigan was well represented in the Little Dipper Conference. Atlanta alone had three girls who earned first-team honors. Huskies Alliyah Hagemeister, Jyl Larson, and Olivia McSwain all received the well-earned honor. Gretchen Weiland was named as a first teamer for Hillman.
Second team selections in the Little Dipper were Kaycie Moldenhauer, from Atlanta, Madelyn Oswald, from Hillman, and Ella Hincka from Posen.
FOOTBALL
The NSL also acknowledged the football players in Northeast Michigan and there was a lot of talent on the gridiron this season, at almost every position.
BIG DIPPER CONFERENCE
Alcona High School’s Brandon Fogle is a first-team running back this year and Justin Romel is a first teamer for his play at wide receiver. Alcona’s Ben Johnston and Roger City Huron Levi Fleming each earned first team honors for their play on the offensive line. Rogers City’s Bryan McKinstry was named to the first team for his overall play on offense.
On defense Huron Levi Fleming and Alcona Tiger Landon Kimball were named to the first team at defensive linemen. Keegan Ritchie and Justin Romel were named to the first team at linebacker for Alcona and Rogers City, respectively.
Nolan Lesko, of Rogers City and Kameron Owens made first team for the contributions in their secondaries.
LITTLE DIPPER CONFERENCE
On offense, Atlanta quarterback Brett Culhem earned a first team shoutout from the NSL and Hillman Tiger Evan Crane was announced as a first-team mention for his performance as a receiver.
Hillman’s offensive lineman Nick Cordes also earned a first-team nod, as did his teammate Xavier Nichols.
On the defensive side of the ball, Hillman’s Eli Schulze earned a first team appointment for his play on the defensive line, while Atlanta’s Brett Culhem won as a linebacker. Evan Crane earned his second first-team nod for his secondary play for the Hillman Tigers.
