ALPENA — The Alpena Wildcats Swim Team put up a strong fight at home on Monday, but ultimately fell to the Ogemaw Falcons 72-98. Despite the loss, the Wildcats showed clear improvement, closing the gap to 26 points compared to their previous 32-point deficit against Ogemaw earlier in the season.

Leading Alpena was Tryst Bukowiecki, who earned two first-place finishes — taking the top spot in both the 100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Backstroke. Brynn Beatty also stood out with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and third place in the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Elizabeth Rabbideau captured second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, setting a personal record, and added a third-place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Penelope Conboy contributed valuable points with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard IM and third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, while Gabriella Tolan earned third place in the 200 Yard IM.

While the Wildcats were unable to overcome Ogemaw’s depth, their improved times and tighter competition reflected a steady upward trajectory for the team.

Alpena will look to build on that progress when they travel to Essexville Garber on Oct. 14 for a 5 p.m. meet.
