Alpena soccer tops Boyne City 8-2

The Alpena High Wildcat boys varsity soccer team defeated Boyne City 8-2 on Tuesday in Boyne City.

Joe LaCross and Owen Kaiser each scored four goals and each had one assist. Jackson Natzel had two assists, and Mason Burns and Aric Knight each had one assist.

Alpena opened the scoring early with two goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Boyne answered with two goals to even the score midway through the first half. Alpena responded with two goals before half and led 4-2 at the break.

Alpena played a much better second half with the defense and midfield controlling the action, giving the forwards multiple scoring opportunities, according to Coach Ken Dragiewicz.

“At times in the first half we struggled with communication and team defensive, but in the second half we came out with energy, communicated well, and moved the ball much more efficiently, creating scoring changes for our forwards,” Dragiewicz said. “I was pleased with the way we played, especially in the second half, and looking forward to the matchup with T.C. West on Thursday.”

Alpena’s next game is at 6:30 p.m. tonight, home against Traverse City West.
