Karamo is the grassroots party chairwoman

Donald Trump putting his stamp of approval on Pete Hoekstra and undermining the actual legally seated Republican state chair, Christina Karamo, is very bad for Michigan and the Republican Party. Trump has endorsed corruption, perhaps unwittingly. The people that “voted” in Hoekstra on Jan. 6, 2024 did not do it legally or according to the bylaws of the Michigan Republican Party, and are carrying out their plan against the will of the 2,100 elected delegates, of which I am one, who voted for those bylaws and Karamo by a landslide at the last state convention (2023). A follow-up letter to the kind lady at Walmart

Dear kind lady, I mentioned I would let you know what our group did with the money you gifted me with at Walmart in the checkout line. Our group decided to have a little party with lots of nice fruit and cheese. The group did give the remainder of the money to a surprised lady that entered our building where we were meeting for the group session. Our group thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. Support your schools, support property tax

Alpena Public Schools has a millage renewal vote coming up on Feb. 27. This is NOT a new tax. This operating millage has been in place since 1994 and does not affect our primary residences. If you do not exercise your right to vote and the millage fails, APS will lose close to $10 million in revenue. This will force APS to reduce and even cut certain programs. I am a graduate of Alpena High School who lived through “Black Friday” as a senior. Schools were closed for three weeks and when we came back there was no busing, programs were cut and it was “Pay to Play” for all ...

Dear Editor: On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Northeast Michigan, I am writing to encourage everyone to support Alpena Public Schools on Feb. 27, 2024. APS will be asking for a renewal and restoration of an 18-mill levy approved in 2016. The League supports adequate funding for public schools. This millage is not levied on homestead property. That means it wouldn’t affect the property taxes on your home. It would be a renewal on business, commercial, and recreational property. A business with a taxable property value of $200,000 would pay $44.62 more per year. Please ...

We are blessed with School Success Program

I was pleased to read the Jan. 18, 2024 Alpena News front-page story about the award received by the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency School Success Program. The School Success Program has been a great benefit to children and families in our area. Dorothy Pintar and the extremely competent and caring staff she has put together through the years has played a significant part in protecting children and assisting students to become successful in school even though some of these students have to overcome severe obstacles to achieve that success.
