Vote yes because library offers tax bargain

I am writing in support of our library.

I will be voting YES to renew the operating budget of the library on Aug. 6.

Why? Because the library is hands-down the best deal I get for my tax dollars. It costs me less than half the price of Netflix for a year and I get access to thousands of books, DVDs, and magazines — and not just hardcopy!

Even if I work late and can’t make it to the library in person, I can use the free library “Libby” app to read magazines and books on my phone from home. I can also use the free service Kanopy to stream movies (take that Netflix!). I didn’t even have to figure out how to download them — the library staff provided a QR code for me to click and access in the newsletter they send out for patrons to get info about library services.

Try for that kind of customer service from a big streaming company — it’s not going to happen.

It’s amazing that for such a tiny amount of my tax dollars my return on investment in the services that I receive is just stellar.

If you love to cook or garden and are always looking at the newest (and probably expensive!) book on Amazon Prime, guess what? All you have to do is ask the library staff to order it from inter-library loan and “poof” like magic it’s here within a week to enjoy.

Join your fellow citizens who recognize a great bargain and get out and vote YES for the library millage on Aug. 6.

That way we can all keep accessing our excellent investment, the Alpena County Library.
