Glad for Polluch upkeep of Lee’s mini golf

I am writing about the article that appeared in Northern Lifestyles on Aug. 7 on Lee’s Miniature Golf Course in Alpena. The original owners were Lee and Elizabeth Reide, and, when it was up for sale in 1985, Mike Polluch, at age 24 years old, purchased the property, which included a beauty stop, music shop and an upstairs apartment. Mike has the original blueprints of the layout of the mini golf and pictures of the original building and one with the new building.

In 2001, Mike built a new building with a bigger arcade, also adding an upstairs apartment, but the golf layout stayed the same. Mike always kept the cost down, gave families discounts and held fundraisers. Mike was installing all new greens and painting each hole. Due to his untimely death one year ago, Mike only had three more greens to finish up and planted fresh flowers every year.

This summer, the mini golf will be 60 years old and Mike was the owner 36 years. Mike’s smiling face and wonderful attitude will be missed by all who knew him. I hope Dave Dargis keeps up with the family discounts and fundraisers. Please give credit where credit is due on the upkeep of the golf course.

Thank you,

DIANE R. STRUZIK,

Atlanta
