The Grand Old Party, or the GOP, has left me and many others starting around 1984, whether we want to admit it or not. Actually, we left them! I was a member for the first 22 years of my voting life, beginning in 1962 as a junior in college. In the early years of my life, I was thankful because my parents, who were factory workers, benefited from the Democrats’ policies. Many citizens, like our parents, relatives, and friends, lived good lives because of the Dems fighting for school, teachers, and better pay for working people. From about 1985 on, the GOP became the new greedy, obnoxious, pompous party with a privileged, know-it-all attitude. Consequently, many of us in education left them.

This new GOP was well demonstrated by the Senate during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, where all but one voted NO! Senators have become greedy because they spend too much time with their top donors and lobbyists who take care of them with the big bucks. How much does the Senate majority leader get from the NRA?

Those big bucks control the Senate and constituents can’t even get through to them. We need term limits badly! What will it take for fellow citizens and Christians to no longer be lost sheep and realize that we have to work together and collectively end this insanity! Most of the fake news coming from Fox News and Trump tweets are outright lies! We have a leader who encouraged citizens to inject disinfectants as a treatment for COVID-19. That says it all!

Let’s all recommit to the 10 Commandments and the Golden Rule and expect our legislators to follow those directives as they lead. We owe it to our youth to fix this insanity.
