One of the prettiest drives in the area is Grand Lake Road from the Hideaway Inn to the “new” Presque Isle Lighthouse. Along the way there is Besser Bell, Fireside Inn, Birch Hill, the Village of Presque Isle, and the “old” Presque Isle Lighthouse. And perhaps a chance view of the host of the light!

Unfortunately, this scenic tour has recently been peppered with divisive political statements, making the drive little less sweet.

Here are some alternatives:

How about displaying the good old American flag? Pink flamingos? Garden gnomes? Butterfly flags? Or (hard for this Michigan State University alum to say) even University of Michigan paraphernalia. “Go blue!”

It’s a thought.
