Progressive columnists entertaining recently

Boy, didn’t we have some entertaining letters in the past week or so in The News. First there was Connie Schultz, who spoke lovingly of our “democracy.” Of course, she was referring to our government in action in the impeachment trial. The only thing is that you can read the U.S. Constitution 10 times and never find the term “democracy.” Then she was appalled at the Republican senators sort of chuckling at the assininity (of course, by using that term, we shouldn’t insult the Ecuus asinus community, that is the genus of the donkey or ass) of the Democrats’ effort to convict the president of impeachment for that for which there is no cause for impeachment. Then there was Leonard Pitts. Good old Leonard, not always good for a laugh, but at his efforts to bad-mouth conservatives. This time, it was his abhorrence of some guy sentenced for 12 years for stealing a cell phone. Of course , he doesn’t’ mention what the thief did to obtain the phone, whether he shot the victim, beat him up, damaged his property. Then there is Mona Charen. For her, Mitt Romney is the “man for all seasons.” That is because he dared to be the only Republican to vote to convict the president. For this he is a hero, standing alone against the majority. Wha? He was gutsy for sucking up to the Democrats? What difference did his meaningless gesture make? He knew that the president would be acquitted regardless of what he did. What did it cost him? What a brave man! The guy who gutlessly gave the presidency to Barack Obama. Mona used to write pretty good columns. Then she apparently became afflicted with the progressive virus.
