Really concerned with Halloween safety?

Trunk or Treat was originally started by church groups with the aim of providing a safer environment for trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Children could trunk-or-treat on Oct. 31, rather than going house to house through dark streets with traffic. It would eliminate the worry that candy was tainted with razor blades, pins, drugs, etc.

Why does Alpena hold its Trunk or Treat night separate from Halloween night?

Do our children really need two nights? Do they really need twice the amount of candy, at the risk of injury?

I would encourage changing the date of future Trunk or Treat nights to Oct. 31.

SHARON LESSARD,

Alpena
