Many made Language Society trip possible

The Language Society of Alpena Community College would like to extend its appreciation to those involved in making the 2019 trip to Central European cities a success. With a total numbering 13 (with three faculty and 10 students), the group traveled from Detroit to Paris to Berlin to Potsdam to Prague to Krakow to Budapest to Amsterdam and finally home. For some students, this was their first trip abroad. For others, their first time on a plane. The journey was life-changing, and TLS owes so much to ACC and the community.

We are especially grateful to scholarship money granted by Robert B. Wisener Endowment Fund and the support of Barb McDougall, who was instrumental in the selection process. We would also like to acknowledge the Endowed Chair Committee of ACC, who awarded Karol L. Walchak, adviser to TLS, the seed money to allow the trip to become a reality. Additionally, the group received funds from the Emphasis on Learning grant, the ACC Players (with Heather Pines as acting adviser), Nick Brege (maintenance), who provided the group with furniture to upcycle (and thanks to you who purchased our works of art), Pizza Hut, who allowed us to serve pizza for tips, and to all those people who donated bottles. Also, to Brenda Herman (executive director, ACC Foundation) and Dr. Don MacMaster (ACC president). We are grateful for your time and effort on our behalf.

The Language Society bases much of its focus on opening doors to culture, diversity, and language. Moreover, the group has attempted to develop travel as a part of its mission. We extend our gratefulness to everyone who helped create a success of our endeavors and apologize if we have left anyone off this list.

KAROL WALCHAK,

Alpena Community College
