Kudos to Alpena Athletic HoF graduates

Now it came to pass that the latest class of the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame inductees were honored on May 4 at the Aplex. My congratulations to all five, especially Mr. Bill Romstadt Sr., whom I have admired for decades as a great teacher, coach, VFW chaplain 2496 (USMC) and friend with the spiritual values of a saint.

I didn’t attend the event, but my heart was there with warm wishes to a special young lady whom I adore and raised. While going through a difficult plus stressful custody battle, she remained true to her faith, worked diligently to maintain her high academic status, while pursuing her athletic career. As her first coach, her practice partner, plus her insurance carrier she could participate in varsity basketball (four years) and track and field (eight years), I was truly pleased.

Melissa (Brousseau) O’Dell was honored after overcoming many obstacles in her life. She did all the work but her system system and rock was her family. It was tough love, going extra mile, plus strong spiritual values that helped.

O’Dell graduated Alpena High School (1997) and Central Michigan University (master’s degree) summa cum laude.

Kudos to the team of the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame for a wonderful program. Keep up the great work. Kudos to Melissa for the earned honor, plus inspiring young female track and field participants to follow their dreams. Continue to work hard and stay focused no matter the odds. Records can be broken, especially with faith and determination.

For giving us courage to accept the trials and tribulations encountered over the years, I give thanks to the Lord, my shepherd.

SHERRY BROUSSEAU-TOLAN,

Alpena
