The City of Alpena should avail themselves to the pot of cash that a new legal marijuana shop could provide. The recently passed law stipulates that only municipalities that allow the pot shops will earn tax dollars from the sale of legal marijuana.

It’s rather sad that the City of Alpena would rather increase taxes on our elderly and poor citizens versus allowing those who choose to purchase legal marijuana to do so to keep the City’s finances in the black.

Those who wish to purchase marijuana are going to buy it somewhere. Would it not be better for the city to share in the pot of cash that will inevitably be generated by this law, than send those dollars elsewhere?
