Alpena News’ Veterans Day coverage great

Dear Alpena News,

Thank You! Your coverage of Armistice Day/Veterans Day was excellent!

This year was special. Nov. 11, 2018 marked 100 years since the end of World War I. Sadly, in America, not many people know anything about Viet Nam, Korea, or World War II, let alone WWI. It is not considered important enough to spend time teaching about it in most school systems. There ARE exceptions.

The broadcast media can only provide soundbites. TV has to get it all into a tiny piece of time/space before their five commercials and then they must have a different piece of news before the next set of ads.

So it is the print media that has the ability and responsibility to keep the torch lit, to keep getting the word out, to keep us informed. Monday’s paper covered it well. From local to national, to international, you gave the readers an opportunity to see how it all connects. We are all a part of that big picture.

KATHLEEN MELVILLE-HALL,

Alpena
